Odebrecht case trial date rescheduled pending responses to international judicial assistance.

Pending the fulfillment of requests for international judicial assistance, the First Judge of the Settlement of Criminal Cases of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, Baloísa Marquínez, rescheduled the regular hearing of the so-called “Odebrecht” case from November 11 to December 19, 2025. Alternatively, from January 12 to February 13, 2026.

Once this formality was completed, the presiding judge asked three defense attorneys to support their requests made last Friday, January 17, regarding the postponement of the regular hearing date, as several requests for international judicial assistance had not been answered.

The case was subsequently forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Ruth Morcillo Saavedra, and to the plaintiff, Carlos Antúnez Moralez, representing the Ministry of Public Security, to address the defense attorneys’ statements regarding the international judicial requests (one to Peru and eight to the Federative Republic of Brazil) and the request for a postponement of the trial.

After hearing the parties, and recognizing that the exercise of criminal prosecution is the responsibility of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and that—on the other side—it must be ensured that an adequate adversarial process is met, at 10:00 a.m. Judge Marquínez Morán announced the rescheduling of the hearing on the merits, for which she asked all parties to be present.
